Best Jo Malone Perfumes Reviews
Updated: Apr 13
Jo Malone has been notorious for its scent and colognes. Jo Malone is a UK-based fragrance designer who got her start in the fragrance industry as a florist. In this article, we will review the Best Jo Malone perfume, including some of our personal favourites. We hope this helps you find your next signature fragrance when you buy Jo Malone.
Jo Malone English Pear & Freesia
Jo Malone English Pear & Freesia is the first cologne from Jo Malone and it is one of the reasons why many women like this scent so much. Jo Malone English Pear & Freesia by Jo Malone London is a Chypre Fruity fragrance. Jo Malone English Pear & Freesia was launched in 2010. The nose behind this fragrance is Christine Nagel.
Top notes are Pear and Melon; middle notes are Freesia and Rose; base notes are Musk, Patchouli, Rhubarb and Amber. The opening note is sharp and the dry down is soft powdery floral. This smells like Dior Blooming. Jo Malone English Pear & Freesia is linear, sharp and citrusy. Freesia is dominant. You would expect a comforting sweet fragrance with pear, melon and patchouli, and this scent is not. As Jo Malone, English Pear & Freesia is a cologne, so it won't long-lasting and probably less than 3 hours.
Jo Malone Blackberry & Bay
Jo Malone Blackberry & Bay is a Floral Fruity fragrance for both women and men. Jo Malone Blackberry & Bay was launched in 2012. The nose behind this fragrance is Fabrice Pellegrin. Jo Malone Blackberry & Bay consider unisex but is far more successful at being unisex than many fragrances that market themselves as such. Realistic blackberry and bay leaf are both front and center to my nose, forming a beautiful balance of aromatic and tartly fruity. The citrus and cedar are prominent, but they allow the two main players to take center stage, at least at first, since the berry is the first note to fade. But the woody-herbal fragrance that remains is just as lovely if a bit more masculine.
The one downside is that the fragrance is pointedly artificial and clean smelling, bordering on the smell of higher-end men's grooming products. But it's much more interesting than a lot of scents I've come across that fit a similar brief. Admittedly I've turned my nose up at Jo Malone in the past - too preppy, tasteful, and dull, I thought. Between this and Wood Sage & Sea Salt, I really have to put aside my prejudices, because these are some solidly good scents.
Jo Malone Lime Basil & Mandarin
Jo Malone Lime Basil & Mandarin by Jo Malone London is a Citrus Aromatic fragrance for women and men. Jo Malone Lime Basil & Mandarin was launched in 1999. The nose behind this fragrance is Jo Malone. Top notes are Lime, Mandarin Orange and Bergamot; middle notes are Basil, Thyme, iris and Lilac; base notes are Vetiver and Patchouli. This is a very pleasant smell. Definitely green with some sour and tart citruses in the background. The basil lends a slightly sweet quality.
I would say the basil is like the lead singer and the citruses are the backup singers, but they are still integral in carrying this scent song. I find that it smells strongly of The Natural from GAP, perhaps slightly more fine-tuned and grounded. Both have the same youthful, spritely energy.
Jo Malone Peony & Blush Suede
Jo Malone Peony & Blush Suede by Jo Malone London is a Floral fragrance scent. Jo Malone Peony & Blush Suede was launched in 2013. The nose behind this fragrance is Christine Nagel. The top note is Red Apple; the middle notes are Peony, Rose, Jasmine and Carnation; the base note is Suede. This is my go-to scent and the longevity is around 3-4 hours on me. Like my other Jo Malone, sillage starts around arm's length and dries down close to the skin.
The peony scent is dominating throughout, which makes it smell very much girly girl. The opening smells like walking into the cosmetics section of Macy’s. The dry down is powdery like a powder compact. I can’t imagine anybody hating this, but on the flip side, it smells like a very typical female fragrance.
Jo Malone Mimosa & Cardamom
Jo Malone Mimosa & Cardamom by Jo Malone London is an Oriental Floral fragrance for women and men. Mimosa & Cardamom was launched in 2015. The nose behind this fragrance is Marie Salamagne. The top note is Cardamom; the middle note is Mimosa; the base note is Tonka Bean. Jo Malone Mimosa & Cardamom is definitely a linear mimosa on me. Gently sweet and powdery. Slightly warm and comforting.
The simplicity of Jo Malone fragrances make them very versatile, and the house actually encourages combining their fragrances to make them either warmer of fresher. A pairing they recommend for Jo Malone Mimosa & Cardamom is with the aforementioned Jo Malone Blackberry & Bay. The result is that the key elements of both become entwined, creating a spicy, fruity autumnal fragrance. To me, it’s reminiscent of autumn baked good without actually being a gourmand. However, it really doesn't long-lasting for me.
Jo Malone Pomegranate Noir
Jo Malone Pomegranate Noir is an Aromatic Fruity fragrance and suitable for women and men. Jo Malone Pomegranate Noir was launched in 2005. The nose behind this fragrance is Beverley Bayne. Top notes are Pomegranate, Rhubarb, Plum, Raspberry and Watermelon; middle notes are Clove, Pink Pepper, Guaiac Wood, Olibanum, Opoponax, Rose, Jasmine and Lily-of-the-Valley; base notes are Virginia cedar, Patchouli, Musk and Amber.
For me, Jo Malone Pomegranate Noir is a very warm and spicy scent, sour red pomegranate, dry wine, nutmeg, cinnamon, cardamom and turmeric. The aroma contains the juiciness of pomegranate and fresh oriental spices. Very interesting, delicate and complicated scent. The aromatic composition is suitable for every moment of the day and seasons.
It is not strong and doesn’t last for hours, but it is perfect for giving a fresh, fruity and elegant feeling to the wearer. The fruity notes are not girly at all, instead, they provide a memory of an Italian restaurant with a red and rose wines collection. For me, this perfume can be used for a romantic dating or a special evening dinner with family, friends or someone special.
In the nutshell, if you are buying Jo Malone colognes, they don't long-lasting and intense as it is not a pure parfum or Eau de Parfum. However, the scent is really lovely, and for those who prefer something fruity, you should buy it!
