Céline was one of the most exciting brands in the fashion shows at Paris Fashion Week, after changes in the brand with Hedi Slimane as the new creative director. Once known for its sleek feminine silhouettes and tonal colour palette, audiences were indeed shocked, and some disappointed with the new logo and collection.

Celine 16

The name ‘16’ derives from the location of Celine’s headquarter; the address is 16 Rue Vivienne. Celine’s 16 Bag — the first one ever launched by Hedi Slimane at Celine — has its etymological roots in the Maison de Couture’s Paris address. With the name inspired by the Hôtel Colbert located at 16 Rue Vivienne in the 2nd arrondissement of Paris, the “16” was designed by Hedi Slimane on the first day of his arrival at Celine. Hedi managed to recapture the codes of some of the Maison Celine’s historic bags, featuring specific '60s details such as the cropped flap as well as rounded and belted effects.

With a design based on the very Parisian way of wearing a bag, this style was first spotted on Lady Gaga and has since been seen on other celebs including Emma Roberts, Kaia Gerber, Reese Witherspoon and Hailey Bieber.



Celine Triomphe

It’s been over a year since the Celine Triomphe Bag popped up on Celine’s website along with the rest of Hedi Slimane’s debut collection for the brand. In that time the bag has slowly but steadily found its way into the hands of some of our favourite style stars. Selena Gomez, Angelina Jolie, Brie Larson, Emilia Clarke and Karlie Kloss have all been spotted with the Triomphe bag in tow. When these VIP ladies take notice, so do we, and while this isn’t the first Celine by Hedi Slimane bag we’ve lusted after, it also likely won’t be the last.




The Triomphe logo is rooted in Celine’s history and the story goes a little something like this: Céline Vipiana’s car broke down in Paris, right in front of the Arc de Triomphe, and she was inspired by the chain that surrounds the iconic monument. The inside of the double links represents two Cs and Celine’s founder immediately adopted it as a house emblem, using it on bags, jewellery, in prints and on shoes. The iconic house motif was adopted and reimagined by new creative director Hedi Slimane, appearing as the finishing touch on a classic silhouette, which we now know as the Triomphe Bag.


Celine Ava


The Ava bag is inspired by a vintage design taken from Celine’s archives, and if you need an actual reference, you can Google Lisa (from Blackpink, of course) carrying one back in 2019. This all-new version, however (which also has Lisa wearing it), comes in Celine’s Triomphe Canvas, featuring a reprised print inspired by the chains circling the Arc de Triomphe. For those who love exclusive designs, the Ava bag is only available in Asia, so you won’t be able to find it in America or Europe, which is perfect for those who want a bag that’s a tad more special.
