Penhaligon's Fragrance Reviews
Updated: Apr 3
Penhaligon's is a British perfumery established in 1870 by William Penhaligon. Originating as a barbershop, Penhaligon's offered its first fragrance in 1872. Penhaligon's best known for its long-lasting fragrance and intense. Penhaligon's also a unisex fragrance that suitable for both women and men. Now, let's share with you what is Penhaligon's fragrance you should buy.
Halfeti by Penhaligon's is an Oriental Woody fragrance for women and men. Halfeti was launched in 2015. The nose behind this fragrance is Christian Provenzano. Top notes are Cypress Leaf, Saffron, Cardamom, Artemisia, Bergamot and Grapefruit; middle notes are Bulgarian Rose, Nutmeg and Jasmine; base notes are Agarwood (Oud), Leather, Cedar, Sandalwood, Amber, Tonka Bean, Vanilla and Musk. Halfeti by Penhaligon's is an extremely rich woody-floral fragrance. This scent can last me for 12 hours and it is so intense.
Halfeti is sexy as hell, but such a tease. That zesty, rich opening is just like a cocktail that might not actually exist irl but I can practically taste it's so tantalising. Halfeti by Penhaligon's Eau de Parfum, it is rich, warm and intense in all the right ways.
I was wearing Halfeti as a signature scent for a period of time and my co-workers detected it but kept quiet about it for a long time. Until one day, one of them came to me saying.. What are you wearing? It's so strong, the whole office is filled up with it! I looked around the office and almost everyone nodded with agreement. The sillage and projection are unbelievable given that I work in my room by myself 90% of the time. For those looking for a strong, long-lasting fragrance, you should try Halfeti by Penhaligon's. It is the most popular scent in Penhaligon's.
The Blazing Mr Sam Penhaligon's
The Blazing Mr Sam by Penhaligon's is a Woody Spicy fragrance. The Blazing Mr Sam was launched in 2018. Top notes are Cardamom and Cinnamon; middle notes are Saffron, Cumin and Black Pepper; base notes are Vanilla, Tobacco, Cedar and Patchouli.
The Blazing Mr Sam by Penhaligon's is a great fragrance if you want to fit in and smell nice and classic without being noticed at all. Work, play, day, evening, doesn't matter and definitely long-lasting. Problem with a classic is that it's often generic and this is no exception.
In short, the opening is distinctly fresh, in the tradition of a typical cologne yet somehow it's so much more than that. Just a tiny hint of sweetness yet incredibly masculine. A barbershop vibe but so much more. It's a lot to process. It's familiar yet unique. It's amazing. I can't even identify the notes yet it is so well blended. Nothing cheap or synthetic smelling so far but to achieve something this fresh there must be ample use of agrochemicals. FYI, the price of The Blazing Mr Sam by Penhaligon's is slightly expensive than the rest due to its unique animal bottle collection.
Cairo by Penhaligon's is an Oriental Floral fragrance for women and men. Cairo by Penhaligon's was launched in 2019. The nose behind this fragrance is Christophe Raynaud. Top notes are Damask Rose and Saffron; middle notes are Vanilla, Cypriol Oil or Nagarmotha and Labdanum; base notes are Sandalwood, Patchouli and Cedar.
Cairo by Penhaligon's is a pure romance. Sensual rose on a soft base of spice and wood. The feminine to Eight & Bob Egypt's masculine; both fragrances conjure up such a specific person and place in my mind. Classically lovely, without feeling stodgy or old.
Cairo by Penhaligon's is a beautiful creation from Penhaligon's. It is made up of rose, with woody-&-herbal nagarmotha/patchouli combo. There a slight touch of sweet spiciness with saffron, vanilla, and sandalwood. Quite oriental, quiet beautiful! Woody, warm, spicy, and only slightly sweet. Warm as the embrace of a hug. It does indeed smell like Armani Privé Rose d'Arabie as "Blacktundras" have mentioned below. However, Cario is woodier and less sweet, which I honestly prefer.
Halfeti Leather Penhaligon's
Halfeti Leather Penhaligon's is a Leather fragrance for women and men was launched in 2020. The nose behind this fragrance is Christian Provenzano. Top notes are Cardamom, Plum, Green Notes, Citruses, Bergamot and Lavender; middle notes are Cumin, Rose, Nutmeg, Violet, Cinnamon and Jasmine; base notes are Leather, Agarwood (Oud), Incense, Cedar and Patchouli.
A muted version of Halfeti. The leather notes in this one muffle the volume of the spice and dark roses that can be found in the OG Halfeti. Very similar overall. You probably don't need both unless you're a collector. This is based on the original Halfeti but has an additional leather and plum accords. The leather and plum remind me of the old and tired TF Tuscan Leather which I actually despise, but it's not really a clone of it.
The sweetened leather genre is overhyped and this one is trying to ride the wave. Longevity and projection are moderate, around 6 hrs with ok projection, not something to talk about in length. Between this and the original Halfeti, I prefer the original Halfeti.
Empressa Penhaligon's is an Oriental Floral fragrance and was launched in 2014. The nose behind this fragrance is Christian Provenzano. Top notes are Blood Orange, Peach, Bergamot, Mandarin Orange and Pink Pepper; middle notes are Rose, Dewberry, Cassis, Neroli and Geranium; base notes are Patchouli, Brown sugar, Musk, Sandalwood, Vanilla, Cacao, Olibanum and Amber.
It's very nicely blended and very feminine, without being overly sweet. The opening is citrusy and bright, quite an uplifting burst. I can also smell some berries, as well as the patchouli, which balances out the florals and fruits in the perfume. A great daytime scent, with good longevity but not as long as Halfeti. As with all Penhaligons fragrances I've tested so far, this has been blended very well so as not to let any note dominate the scene for too long.
